Industrial biomass boilers have made a growing place for themselves in numerous sectors of industrial activity to generate electricity or heat for industrial processes since the 1980s. Their use in industry began in this decade, when companies decided to diversify their sources of energy to power their production processes. The valorization of biomass in industry has led to its application successively in industrial activities, either in drying processes, in the production of hot water or thermal oil, in the heating of industrial buildings or in district heating systems to take advantage of energy production.

Applications of industrial biomass boilers

In a context of energy dependence on the outside and the rising cost of fuel, biomass represents an available, sustainable, efficient and economical solution. Precisely, it has been the increase in the energy bill that has made companies put the focus again on biomass, as an alternative fuel. In this sense, the economic cost of biomass is frequently lower than that of other fuels, and may even be of zero cost, if it comes from the plant’s own industrial process. This is the case of logging companies, food industries, such as wine or olive farms, for example, which can revalue their waste.

On the other hand, biomass implies a diversification of fuel sources and the possibility of mixing with other fuels of fossil or renewable origin. An example is the ceramic factories, paper mills, cement factories, etc. that use a mixture of biomass and fossil fuels in their industrial process.
