Gas purification system with high-efficiency cyclones in the agri-food sector
Soluciones Integrales de Combustión installs a gas purification system with high-efficiency cyclones in an agri-food plant in the Valencian community (Spain).
The cyclones installed by the thermal and combustion engineering company consist of stainless steel equipment to prevent corrosion and are designed to purify gases from the trommel of the aforementioned agri-food industry.
This cyclone gas purification system controls airborne particles, separating solids from the gas stream. This system aims to improve the environment and the competitiveness of its client. This allows for controlling atmospheric emissions and recovering the product, in this case food ingredients.
In addition to the food sector, high-efficiency cyclones are used to control emissions in areas such as biomass and coal combustion and drying, pyrolysis and incineration systems, glass and ceramic kilns, fuel oil, and oil and gas combustion, among other industrial sectors.
How high-efficiency cyclones operate
High-efficiency cyclones are particulate matter control devices. They are designed to achieve greater removal of small particles than conventional cyclones.
Cyclones consist of sedimentation chambers in which centrifugal acceleration occurs. They are one of the most cost-effective dust collection mechanisms, both in terms of investment and operation. They are sealed installations that do not rely on moving parts, making maintenance easier. They can be constructed of various materials and are designed for high operating temperatures and pressures.
Their operation involves mobilizing gases within a double vortex, where the gas spirals downward on the outside and upward on the inside. The gas enters the upper chamber tangentially and is subjected to strong centrifugal acceleration that adheres solids to the cyclone walls, with a force proportional to their mass. It descends in spirals to the apex of the conical section, then ascends in a second spiral, with a smaller diameter, and exits at the top through a vertical gas duct. Thus, the solids move radially toward the walls, slide down them, and are collected at the bottom, usually in a hopper.
Advantages of cyclones as a gas purification system
As solid particle purifiers, cyclones play a significant role in areas such as:
- Preventing environmental pollution
- Pneumatic transport
- Dust collection circuits
- Smoke outlets with high concentrations of suspended particles
- Fly ash recovery
- Industrial ventilation
