Commissioning of a burner at a refinery in Indonesia

Soluciones Integrales de Combustión, an engineering and energy services company, has finishet the commissioning of a burner at a refinery in Indonesia.

The plant’s activity is dedicated to the process of separating natural gas from a local field for its subsequent transformation into liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The combustion system consists of a Pirobloc thermal fluid boiler and a JBM-HP 700-G2 burner designed by E&M Combustion to operate in the refinery using natural gas from the recently discovered field and pentane. It will operate at a gas pressure of 60 mbar, with flame monitoring via a photocell.

These units are part of a heating system for the oil and gas industry. They are used to heat fluids such as crude oil, natural gas, produced water, or refined products, in order to optimize processes like phase separation and improve efficiency in transportation and refining.

In this project, natural gas will be used as a substitute for diesel fuel to meet industrial needs and strengthen the country’s energy security. The plant is projected to produce 10 billion British thermal units per day (BBTUD) of liquefied natural gas and 30 metric tons per day of LPG when fully operational.

The commissioning of a burner in a refinery is a critical procedure involving valve alignment, leak testing, safety blowdowns, and strict control of the fuel-air mixture to generate the flame and optimize thermal performance in the boiler.
