Integral Combustion Solutions has managed to increase the performance of the Smurfit Kappa Celpack boiler in Porto, Portugal, with the start-up of a preheater. This preheater has allowed boiler thermal efficiency to be increased by about three points, from 90% throughput to 93%.

The boiler mentioned is a steam equipment with a production of 6,000 kg. of steam at a working pressure of 15 bar. The temperature of air entering the burner goes from about 30 degrees of boiler room temperature up to 115 degrees, once passed through the exchanger. Air preheaters (APH) reduce fuel consumption in boilers by recovering heat from exhaust gases and can be used with all types of fuel.

Smurfit Kappa Celpack plant is integrated into the Smurfit Kappa Spain and Portugal division, a geographical area composed of 19 centers dedicated to the manufacture of packaging solutions for corrugated cardboard, paper for packaging and forest management. In the plant near Porto, it designs and manufactures sustainable and innovative packaging systems in association with its customers to respond to the needs of the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, as well as industrial and electronic products, among others.
