Installation of a resin combustion system, the “liquid gold”, fully operational
Soluciones Integrales de Combustion has carried out the installation and start-up of a combustion system that uses as fuel reteno (resin), what is now considered “liquid gold” from Castilla y León and other European regions committed to the development of this fuel.
The project has been installed and is fully operational in a plant in the province of Segovia that uses only reteno as fuel, extracted from resin. In the image we can see the resin combustion burner, together with the burner head designed specifically for this application, developed by the Spanish company E&M Combustion.
Driven by the crisis of the plastic culture, the last decade has seen a new interest in the resin industry of a good part of the pine forests. The new resin generation operations are accompanied by research programs in this field and national development plans for this activity.
Resin combustion system
Considered by some as the oil of the future, resin and its derivatives are hydrocarbons like petroleum derivatives, so that due to their physical-chemical composition they could be used in practically the same applications.
Current technology now allows us to avoid variables such as the climate, the date of harvest, the species of pine from which the material comes or the distillation method, and that potential is a reality, according to experts in the sector. The economic and social interest that its development entails occurs in the context of a lack of fuel and the increased cost of these raw materials, so the policies against climate change and the international logistics crisis offer an opportunity for the project to consolidate. Companies and institutions are trying to convert the new resin industry into one of the development factors of “emptied Spain” and contribute to keeping the country’s forests in good condition.
In Spain, the resin activity is concentrated in the province of Segovia, as well as in Valladolid, Ávila and Soria. In fact, between the land of Pinares and the Sierra de Gredos there is a forest of 400,000 hectares of resinous pines. Castilla y León is the place with the most resin manufacturers in all of Europe.
Combustion systems for all types of fuels
Soluciones Integrales de Combustion is a thermal engineering oriented to respond to the needs raised by its clients. With this objective, it develops, manufactures and starts up different combustion systems for all types of fuels, traditional such as fossil fuels and alternative fuels, such as hydrogen, biomass, recycled oils or resin combustion systems.
